How To Shorten Your URLs

You’re probably used to seeing this type of link around the web http://TinyURL.com/yk9w9pk . Have you ever wondered how or where they came from?

TinyURL Revealed

It’s a TinyURL and its used to create an alternative or shortened link to the website you’re referencing. Particularly useful for twittering because you only have 140 characters to twitter with at a time, so TinyURL can dramatically shorten your URL, making room for more information in your tweet.

It’s Free And Easy To Use

TinyURL is a free online application that is easy and fast to use. Go to www.TinyURL.com, paste the long URL into the available field and click ‘Make TinyURL!’ Your done.

The newly created TinyURL is displayed. Now just copy and paste it into your twitter field (or blog post, or website, or social media post…) and your done.

I always check the link to ensure it works, again here’s an example of a TinyURL in action, http://TinyURL.com/yk9w9pk. When you click that link you’ll see the original URL in all it’s glory.

The New Biorock Wastewater Treatment System Website

About Biorock

Biorock is a waste water treatment plant that can be used for one-off residence to commercial set-ups.

James is great to work with and this is his THIRD Starter Website! James provided all the content in a single word document, with pages clearly defined under page headings. He provided a short brief about the colour scheme and left the rest to me.

Web Design Logic

Because the website topic discusses wastewater and sewage treatment, I thought it important to keep the look clean and spacious. I put the product image in the site banner so prospective customers will identify the product quickly.

Because the filtering system is biorock I wanted to use an ‘earthy’ and ‘gritty’ texture for the background, something subtle enough to frame the main content without stealing the show. I used a light blue/grey ‘noise’ type of texture to frame the page.

Besides the contact page, the site is a single column. There’s a lot of content on the site and I felt the full page width was required to best present it. This is a 6 page Starter Website, so it’s built as a simple website with CSS and XHTML – no content management system.

Conclusion

That’s pretty much it. Having read the site content myself I’m convinced this is the best sewage/wastewater treatment system because it has no moving parts, the biorock does all the work of cleaning the waste and it needs to be emptied far less than traditional wastewater products.

If you’re new to article marketing you’re probably wondering what directories to submit your articles to.

There are hundreds of article directories but my personal top 5 favourites are:

• EzineArticles.com
• Articlebase.com
• GoArticles.com
• ArticleAlley.com
• ArticleDashboard.com

When you write an article you can submit it to hundreds of directories, thus creating links back to your site (which will improve your positioning in search engines) and you will also create traffic to your website from those articles (supposing your submissions get the readers attention!)

One other major benefit of article marketing is other people can use your article in their own sites and so on. When doing so, they are obliged to keep your resource box and links in place, so you get extra links back to your website without any extra effort.

That’s viral marketing at it’s best!

What’s a resource box? It’s the place where you can place your author details and a link back to your website.

Note: Article directories tend to have restrictions on the amount of links you can include in your text, the type of links you add (might not allow adult sites), and where you can add those links. For the human administrated directories you’ll have to check their guidelines to ensure your submission is accepted.

Article marketing can be highly effective and well worth the effort you put in. And don’t restrict yourself to just the handful of directories I mentioned above, why not submit each article to 100 directories? Or better still, submit to 1000 directories! Just imagine all those links and all that traffic!… But if you are short on time the directories above are the best to start with.
